As of right now, I have completed the design for the background of this piece and cut out the negative space in the middle and the overall shape of the piece with an exacto knife. My next steps are to create the abstracted earth to fit in the negative area and then attached a transparent colored material over everything but the abstracted representation of the earth. This is what I have so far for my quarter 2 in class project. The plan is to complete a circle full of spirograph designs with a more organic pattern within them. Once this is complete I will create an abstracted earth in the black are left in the bottom left of the spirographs. Then, a colored translucent piece of paper will cover everything except the abstracted earth. To begin to accomplish this, I have started to complete the background with the spirograph designs and patter. You can see that I have already had to make a few changes, like short the circle where the abstracted earth will be.
Within this slideshow is a picture of my drawing before I added to value to the wall and after, my final piece. There is not much of a difference, but shows the progressions and the quality of the image of my final piece showcases the details. I am fairly happy with how this project turned out, especially this is my first more formal freeings, and I had never really worked with sketching pencils before. There are actually still a few changes I would like to make to the piece, like darken the darkest values to try to actually make them black, and maybe add more detail to the top portion of the piece, as right now I am much happier with the lower half. Although the deadline has passed, I will upload my piece to my gallery once I have made these desired changes.
For my at home quarter 1 project, I have begun going in to my preliminary drawing and adding values with sketching pencils. I have never worked with this media before so there has definitely been a learning curve, but I am pretty happy with how it's going so far. I decided to start with what I assume to be the trickiest part, the actual stairs. Above is a zoomed in version of the drawing, just showing the parts where I have added value.
