Through my art, I work with the contrasting ideas of chaos and order, both visually and conceptually. I believe that the connection between these distinct states can be found in every aspect of life, whether they are immediately evident or exclusively apparent after deeper investigation. I hope to make art that represents and guides my own exploration of the balance between chaos and order both within myself and the world around me.
I explore the juxtaposition between chaos and order through varying mixed media pieces, typically featuring the repetition of circles. I choose to work with circles because of their variability. I find they can be used to represent both chaos and order - it all depends on their arrangement. More recently, I have been drawn to small paper circles, as although from afar they appear simple and precise, a closer look can reveal that each circle is part of a greater, more complex picture - an idea I believe extends beyond my own work. I enjoy experimenting with this same idea on a larger scale by creating minimalistic, yet still detailed and layered pieces. This proclivity for experimentation drives both my decision making process and work. Most recently I have been creating multimedia, layered pieces that not only feature circles, but are circles, or in some cases fears. As circles have become a clear motif in my work, I have become increasingly interested in not how circles lend themselves to the content of my work, but why I am truly so obsessed with them. I figure the best way to find the answer to this question is to continue to use them in my work in as many ways as possible.
